a space for reflection

  • Fidget Space 1714 N. Mascher St. Philadelphia United States (map)

Admission: Free

If one focuses on the formal machinery of democratic government, it is hard to find the democratic currents that provide much hope for the future. The picture is much less bleak, however, when one looks at the many social groupings that are bringing people together both to do things for themselves and use and protect the machinery of democracy.
— Bertram Gross

What is the role of the artist and artist-led organizations in a crisis of democracy?

Over the past eight years, Fidget has come to be known as a gathering space in Philadelphia for artists and thinkers. This week we feel called more than ever before to hold space for discussion and togetherness. Please join us for an informal gathering where we can listen and share. We hope to foster discussion around, strategies for the preservation of democratic logic in alternative social organizations, and the particular crisis of signification that political rupture entails for the arts.
