Artist in Residence, Zornitsa Stoyanova, is fascinated with symmetry and Mylar reflective material. Through her journey of the shapeshifting birthing body, and exploration of the Mylar material, she became interested in how the Mylar has a life of its own. How it creates obvious maleness and femaleness while addressing the other – the alien, emerging from her body. Both her photography and the film are self-captured, commenting on the solitude of motherhood, yet the imagery evokes propagation and cloning oneself into a new abstracted body.
Explicit Female is an interactive event for one performer and twenty audience members. It is an immersion into the female body. Featuring personal narratives, custom designed lighting and live feed special effects, it aims to process the mystery of the shapeshifting form half of the world resides in. Casual, yet intimate, the performance strives to connect deeply and kinesthetically to the viewers, at times asking them to participate in the very creation of the event itself.
